WEDNESDAY'S FA Cup replay against Plymouth is colossal, writes James Stevens.

Newport County are a small club with a tight budget and a pitch that desperately needs some money towards it.

There is no doubting how much the television money and ticket income from the tie at Anfield will do for us but more importantly the fans deserve a big day out after what has felt like a truly miserable year.

Crawley was our last away game of 2016, and it was another that County fans walked away from having seen their team appear second best.

By all means County weren’t terrible, and it was one of those ‘if that had gone in’ games where it all seemed to go against us or favour them.

But League Two is a seriously close league, just look at Morecambe who lose five and then beat Plymouth, or us taking Carlisle’s unbeaten record from the foot of the table.

That’s where manager Graham Westley finding a top striker who takes his chances could make the difference.

Take a team like Barnet. They have a similar budget and from our previous encounters there is generally not a lot of difference in terms of all-round quality.

But Barnet have John Akinde, a top striker who takes his chances and he’s got 16 goals to his name this season.

Barnet are a point off the play-offs, we are bottom of the league.

By all means Rhys Healey could be that player, but with so much speculation it’s hard to imagine him staying at the Exiles.

With the Jon Parkin money, the BT deal and a bit more in the budget from the youth players leaving let’s hope that we find that man!

On to Wednesday night, and it is a hugely exciting time for us as a club.

With BT Sport cameras at Rodney Parade, there is that feeling that ‘this is the big one’.

For us it’s massive, it’s a huge game to setup possibly one of the biggest ties since the club reformed. Yes, it’s exciting for Argyle, but this is a team who were at Wembley only seven months ago and a squad and staff with eyes firmly on promotion.

The budget from one end of the table to the other is remarkable.

I mention this idea of replacing Parkin but for Argyle it’s totally different.

Jake Jervis, Jordan Slew, Jimmy Spencer, Ryan Brunt, Graham Carey and Scotland international David Goodwillie are just a few of the number of attacking threats that Derek Adams has to choose from.

At the other end of the table, we’d be delighted to sign any one of them.

It’s hard to envisage how County will do in a match with an added burst of intensity, whether that be the TV cameras or the thought of Anfield in their heads.

Even if Argyle are a much bigger club, every player on that pitch dreams of playing there and it may just be that some jittery defending could swing the game one way or the other, especially on the pitch in its current state.

This is the moment Newport County fans have been waiting for, this is the game of a lifetime, so make sure you’re down at Rodney Parade!
