LEIGH HALFPENNY: Kicked his goals immaculately, with five penalties from five, but was partly to blame for the last South Africa try and he is criminally neglected as the potent attacking threat he is. 7

GEORGE NORTH: Wasn’t brought into the game enough, knocked the ball on at the death when there was a chance of a try. Defended and kicked badly at times. Not his finest hour. 5

JONATHAN DAVIES: Only lasted 12 minutes but showed his class with a devastating early break. Went off with a serious pectoral injury and was replaced by Ashley Beck. 6

SCOTT WILLIAMS: Showed some nice touches and did okay in general but Wales do miss the physical presence and defensive leadership of the injured Jamie Roberts. 6

LIAM WILLIAMS: Had to be replaced early on with a head injury so didn’t have a chance to show what he can do. James Hook did well in his place when he came on. 6

RHYS PRIESTLAND: A poor performance at times from a player who should not be Wales’ first choice No 10. Guilty for gifting the Boks their last try which effectively cost his side the game. 4

MIKE PHILLIPS: Did okay but he couldn’t lift the tempo of the game when needed and his service has never been the best. Outshone by his opposite man Fourie du Preez. 6

GETHIN JENKINS: His 99th cap went well, excellent in the loose but was yellow carded for collapsing a scrum, his opposite number was also sin binned. 7

RICHARD HIBBARD: Good around the field but a number of his throw-ins at the lineout went awry. Another example of the ‘Welsh disease’ creeping back, the inability to win possession at crucial times. 7

ADAM JONES: Left the field after just over half an hour but Wales curiously didn’t really miss him too much in a gutsy performance by the pack. Replaced by both Scott Andrews who left after he had a knock. Paul James finished at tighthead. 6

BRADLEY DAVIES: Wales’ man of the match, the big Cardiff Blues man was back to his best after a difficult last few years. Mounted a promising attack with a great run and was phenomenal all day. 8

ALUN WYN JONES: Not his finest game and he knocked the ball in contact at a crucial moment several phases after his second row partner Davies powered through the South Africa defence. 5

DAN LYDIATE: Hard working and defensively sound as always but so often offers little when his side attacks. Another player who knocked on during a pivotal period of the game. 6

SAM WARBURTON: A fine game by the captain who led a brave pack against the brutally physical Boks. He is great defensively but not so prominent as a link player or in attack. 7

TOBY FALETAU: Started brightly and looked good in the opening exchanges only to noticeably fade in the latter stages of the game. 6
