CARNIVAL QUEEN: Pill carnival queen competition has now been arranged for Sunday, June 22, 4pm. Mr Tony Wright, MBE, of Real Radio, will be there to compere the event. Girls must be aged five years to 16 years on the day of the carnival (August 25, Monday bank holiday). First prize of £50 for the chosen queen plus £25 for the runner-up. We give prizes to all winners, which consist of five court ladies and five flower girls. All entrants must live in Newport. PRAM RACE: Pill carnival committee held its meeting and all is going well. Lots of interest in this year's pram race. All you need is a wheelable pram, wheelbarrow, etc, to enter, a mum and baby/grown-up dressed as the baby.

YOUTH SPORT: Pill Harriers under-eights and nines are up and running after a lot of hard work, all credit must go to all the players for their commitment. It was a close game with an excellent team effort, tries were scored by Macauley Prince, Jake Hanbry, Josh Healey, Rohan Bird and Ben Torjesson. Man of the match was Ellis Sievwright. St Joseph's the winners. A big thank-you to coach Martin Bird.

DRAGON SPORTS: Every Tuesday at Newport YMCA between 4pm and 5pm. Come along and join the other boys and girls aged between seven and 11 years of age trying to improve their cricket skills. The session has no charge.

POLICE PRESENCE: Many people will notice the increased police presence in Pill lately. I've seen a few arrests from my shop window in the last week, the officers are certainly pounding the beat on a regular basis.

GIRLS' FOOTBALL: During the last six months girls' football in Pill has taken off. Girls from Pillgwenlly and St Michael's primary schools have taken part in training sessions and matches against each other.
